How A Voice Over IP Provider Saves Its Clients Money

By Linda Watson

Many businesses are in a very tight spot. Competition is getting fiercer by the day, but the poor state of the global economy also makes it difficult to survive. Companies must save money, but they dare not lower their service levels. Consumers are spoilt for choice and their loyalty go to companies that can satisfy their needs. Luckily, a voice over IP provider can help many companies to maintain excellent service levels and save lots of money at the same time.

Using the internet to communicate is not a new idea. It never caught on initially because the use of such a system depended upon the ability to access the internet. In those years internet access was only available in main areas. Now, however, the internet can be access everywhere, even in remote locations and such access is stable and reliable. As a result, the popularity of internet based systems have grown spectacularly.

For many new clients, the main motivating factor is the promise that they will be achieving significant savings. This promise is indeed true and some companies say that they have saved more than half of their previous communications bills. However attractive the savings are, new clients quickly realize that these systems make an important contribution to the productivity of all employees. This translates into higher profits.

The death knell for older systems lies in the fact that they severely restricted the mobility of users. To receive or place calls, one had to be physically present at a workstation with a telephone extension. This meant many lost calls and huge delays because callers had no choice but to leave messages. With internet based systems users can make or receive calls anywhere. They never have to miss an important call.

Internet based systems are also flexible regarding the devices that can be used to communicate. There is no need to buy new devices. Existing devices, such as tablets, laptops and smart phones can all be used. Even better is the fact that a user is not restricted to the use of one single device. Any device with internet access can be used to communicate and because all user accounts are stored in the cloud, all accounts are continually synchronized across multiple devices.

Over time, people have become used to handy features such as call holding, call transfers, conference calls and voice mail. Internet systems still offer all these features but also many other advanced features that can help users to be much more efficient. There is voice to email, video conferencing, voice to fax and many other new features. It is even possible to transfer a call to another user at a remote locality.

Older systems required the physical installation of equipment at every branch, outlet or location. This required a very big initial capital outlay and huge bills for ongoing maintenance. Every installation required a separate operator. Internet systems require only one central installation. There is no need for an operator and the cost of maintenance is minimal. The system is hosted by the service provider too.

It seems as if internet communication systems have come to stay. Their popularity keeps rising. People love the advanced features and the fact that they can achieve significant savings. Many experts agree that older switchboard systems have run their course.
