Volvo Releases U.S. Pricing for “Twin Engine” XC90 T8 Plug-In Hybrid

2016 Volvo XC90 T8 hybridThe all-new 2016 Volvo XC90 is an alluring proposition, and not just because of its Swedish good looks and airily plush interior. While the T6 base drivetrain is no slouch, cranking out 316 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s both turbo- and supercharged, the real engineering feat is the T8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain that Volvo claims is good for 400 horsepower and 59 MPGe. Today, Volvo revealed how much you’ll pay to get the so-called “Twin Engine” drivetrain.

Like the T6-powered variant, the XC90 T8 comes in three trim levels. The base-level Momentum rings in at $69,095 with destination charge. That’s a hefty $19,200 higher than the same trim level in gasoline-only spec, though Volvo points out that the price doesn’t include the $4600 in federal tax credits for which the plug-in hybrid is eligible. Like the gas-burner, the T8 Momentum features leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, and a whole bunch of Volvo’s safety features like pedestrian- and cyclist-detecting City Safety monitoring and electronic crash avoidance aids.
Next up the ladder is the XC90 T8 R-Design, the sporty variant in the lineup. With a black front grille, R-Design lower front bumper spoiler, matte-silver window trim and mirror caps, sport seats, charcoal Nubuck and Nappa leather upholstery, and steering wheel paddle shifters, the R-Design rings in at $70,995. That’s an increase of $17,100 over the gas-only R-Design, before you start knocking off tax deductions.
The top-line, most luxurious package is the Inscription trim level. Classed up with fancy wood inlays and supple Nappa leather inside, chrome window surrounds and mirror caps on the outside, and a matte-silver front grille, the Inscription stickers for $72,595—a jump of $17,100 over the conventional-drivetrain Inscription, though again, that price doesn’t include the tax incentives that buyers can receive.
