By Paul Price

To have a well maintained lawn, there several things that should be done. Among the many things that are done by property owners lawn spraying and fertilization are two of the major things done to make a very big difference in lawn maintenance. However, there are conditions that could hinder the effectiveness of these maintenance procedures. To make sure that all procedures carried out are effective, it is best to first understand these conditions.

Climate is different depending with the location. Climate change could greatly affect how plants do. The different conditions provide different options. It is evident as some plants do well in some regions and not others. To make sure that the plant that is to be planted does well in the field, the soil must be studied first. This will facilitate by making sure that the soil has all the required nutrients for the plant to do well. And if the nutrients are not there, then the right fertilizer and herbicides will be used.

Within a year, there are different seasons. These seasons may vary depending on the location and the climate. These seasons determine if it is the right time to apply fertilizer or spray the field. It is not advisable to apply fertilizers during the spring time. When fertilizer is applied at this time, leaf growth is stimulated at the expense of the root. Some lawns need to be fertilized few times in a year as compared to others. This depends on the quality of the lawn.

In case you require lower quality lawns is desired, only low maintenance will be required. If it is a high quality that is desired, then high maintenance is required. This means that low maintenance grass will fertilized fewer times as compared to high quality lawns which will need more fertilization. When that has been determined, the right schedule now can be followed to make sure that the lawn is fertilized.

When maintaining any lawns that are low in terms of quality, it is important to understand that it is good to fertilize the lawn when the leaves of the grass have stopped to grow. During this time, the grass grows stronger as the nitrogen from the fertilizer keeps the roots strong. To make sure that the fertilizer is fully utilized, the grass should be watered after applying the fertilizer.

Fertilizer should be applied by a machine known as a spreader. There are two types of the spreaders, namely; the drop spreader and the rotary or the broadcast spreader. One is for large lawns and the other for smaller lawns. They are the ones used to spread fertilizer in the field.

If you have large lawns, it best to use the rotary or the broadcast spreader as it throws fertilizer 10 feet. This covers a big area of the field. The spreader may not be perfect with precision but it covers 70% of the field. Well, with small lawns the drop spreader is the best. To make sure that most of the field is covered by both the spreaders, the fertilizer should be applied twice in right angles.

While spraying to get rid of the weeds or applying supplements, it is vital that the right chemicals is used. The reason this is important is because it limits the growth of weeds. The right herbicide should control the target weed instead of causing damage to the field.
