You Can Count On Las Vegas Air Conditioning Repair

By Francis Riggs

Summer brings with it hot weather. The first thing you probably do, when the temperature rises, is to turn on the air conditioner. While at the same time, the last thing you want to have happen is to have it blowing warm air into your home. Here are some tips on maintenance and when you should call the experts. If you live in an area with extreme temperatures during the summer, like southern Nevada, you can count on Las Vegas Air Conditioning Repair.

You may be rigorous about performing preventative maintenance on your heat pump but there are still times when a professional needs to be called in. When any of these signs show up, please continue to be as diligent when hiring a company as you have been doing your maintenance. Be certain the professional has the proper licensing for the work to be performed. Just as important, but often overlooked, is they have insurance.

If the unit is cycling off and on more than seems proper it could be one or two things. One, the thermostat is malfunctioning. Two, it could be the cold air is escaping outdoors. Either one will cause excessive wear on the unit and can lead to bigger problems.

Another sign is you are getting warm air instead of cold from the vents. You may be able to correct this yourself. First, check the thermostat to confirm it is indeed set on cooling and not heat. This actually happens often. If it is not that, then check your air filter because it may simply need replacing. However, if neither are the culprit, it is time to call the professionals.

Do not ignore odors that are unusual because it is also a sign something is not right. An electrical smell means that either the insulation or wiring is over heated. A damp or musty smell can mean there is some sort of growth inside the unit or the ducts. Either can be dangerous to you and your families health.

Probably the most obvious is when the air blowing from the vents is not as cold as before or it simply is not cold at all. This could mean the Freon levels are too low or that the compressor has failed. Either case is serious and could result in having to replace the unit.

One more thing to watch for is if you notice the house is not being evenly cooled. One area is warmer or colder than the rest of the house. In this case, there could be something stuck in the duct work. Sometime birds nest, vermin, or leaves will get in there. If it is not debris in the duct work, then it is probably a problem with the compressor.

There are some general maintenance steps you can take each year to prolong the life of your cooling system. One is to keep the area clear of any leaves, debris, branches and vegetation. Clean inside the unit of debris, nest, or vermin. Also wash and straighten the fins inside the unit.

It would be smart to follow the maintenance steps before the temperatures rise in your area. Once you turn on the Air Conditioning and there are strange odors, your home is not being cooled evenly, or not cooling at all, call a professional that is properly licensed and insured.
