Discovering Diversity Training Baltimore MD

By Arthur Harris

Inclusion, whether in public places or the workplace can often be a difficult issue. While this is the case, Diversity Training Baltimore MD and other areas are at the forefront when it comes to resolving such problems. One reason this is the case is that the Baltimore Attorney General is intent on educating employers and the public about issues in this area.

Currently, the sitting Attorney General is administering and enforcing Federal and State laws related to equal opportunity employment such as promoting a fair and safe work place which is free of retaliation, harassment, discrimination or bias. The office also believes it is important to answer to, and reflect the diverse communities of the state.

In seeing diversity as a positive aspect of society, the Baltimore Attorney General believes that it is a key to problem solving and increased productivity in various work environments. Whereas, through acceptance of diverse individuals and communities, business and community relationships have grown over the years. In large part, this growth along with a commitment towards equality and justice has helped create better work environments and a more peaceful society at large.

In alignment with this commitment, the office has now developed a number of initiatives to hire a diverse staff also working with community members. One of these programs includes the OAG Diversity Committee which was created to foster a culturally sensitive and diverse workplace. To date, the committee has focused on four main areas which include advice and legislation, training and education, events, programs, hiring and retention.

In a program called Unconscious Bias Training, individuals are educated on how the unconscious mind works. In most cases, individuals are not even aware that biases exist. As such, the class discusses the importance of these hidden biases in the decision making process and how to eliminate such biases in the future.

The Community Law in Action Corporate Mentoring Program in association with the CLIA's Law and Leadership Academy trains high school juniors and seniors in the greater Baltimore area. In this program, students learn how to locate internships in different areas of the legal field while developing and strengthening existing skills. In many cases, these programs and internships are the first access students have to a professional work environment.

Several area law firms are also working to attract diverse students who have shown exceptional leadership qualities. In most cases, those doing so have been active in a number of community and public service programs while still in high school. As a result, the program has resulted in creating a pipeline of qualified and diverse individuals whom are now interested in working in the legal field.

Students whom plan to attend a private sector training program need be cautious of scams. For, there are a number of entities promoting these educational programs whom have no experience when it comes to training others. As a result, the Attorney General and others often advise individuals to run background checks on, and obtain references from, any individual or company before registering for a program or making payment.
