Codes of conduct protect clients, professionals, employers and the profession. Individuals must understand the content and spirit of all codes. Clients must also be aware of contents of the code. If professionals do not stick to the codes of conduct, they can face disciplinary action from the custodians of the code. In extreme cases, they may be subjected to a lawsuit and an ultimate jail term.
