Timber Frame Trusses To Keep House Roofs Durable

By Della Monroe

If we were to look back in our history, we all know that people before are fond of building their houses under a flat roof. People seem to often do this because of the fact that is way much cheaper and they still do not have enough knowledge in building. Thus, they often experience roofs collapsing because of weak foundation and weather.

But people now found a good way to strengthen the foundation and that is through building foundations in dissimilar forms rather than the flat ones. They often use timber frame trusses which efficiently support roofs. Thus, almost all the roofs today last longer, more durable, and stronger compared to having the flat ones.

These trusses are just frames which undergo the process of kiln drying. The frames are then attached underneath your home covering to create a very good foundation. These frames are commonly installed with a steal nail plate to make your truss efficiently strong. But the creation of frames will surely depend on your house construction needs and the type of design you definitely want to have.

All of it is made accurately to fit your home so it will have good strength. From its size, angling, and installation, you can ensure all of it is accurate making your roof part ready and can withstand any types of weather. With that, here are several things that strengthen and weaken a truss.

First is its production or making process. The wood needs to become a lightweight one but not sacrificing the kind of durability and wood strength it already has. Different truss manufacturers in the industry use the process of kiln drying which could really retain the wood strength, thus contributing to longer roof usage. After the process is made, manufacturers then measure the wood strength and quality with a specific grading device.

The design of truss to support your home covering is very critical. This is because changing a little bit of its parts will surely contribute to weaken your entire house covering part. If you see anything that have changed or needs to change, directly contact your structural engineer. If not, your entire house covering will collapse.

Likewise, the engineer definitely has to check the wood as they install it on top of your house. Again, any changes on its screw, bolts, and or pegs could contribute to the decrease of its strength upon installation. Therefore, this is literally a new reason why you can potentially end up having a collapsed house covering, a new and another problem on your part.

No matter how reliable these trusses could be, always watch out for certain things that can cause failure. Yes, things can still go wrong in the long run especially with the type of weather it has withstood. Thus, failures could happen anytime to your house and the best way to prevent it is to do inspection.

If the frame is always exposed to damp, this could further lead to strength decrease. Even though you treated your truss for so many times, the damp could still affect the wood. Also, you need to check the natural rotting and decaying of wood or decay due to insect damage. This usually happens to old buildings where frame ends are supported by walls made of stone.
