How To Make Bubble Wands At Home

By Daniel Ellis

Ever since we were children we remember how much fun it was to blow bubbles on a sunny day. Maybe even the whole family would step it and you would all go chasing bubbles. So while you wait for the next sunny day, prepare yourself with homemade bubble wands and bubbles, as they are so easy and fun to make.

There are several ways in which you can do them yourself, and all of them can be tried with the kids, maybe at a little summer party. You will be able to make all sorts of wands, from big ones to smaller ones, and every one of them will be unique.

One type involves getting some colored wire and shape it into a circle. The diameter differs based on how much you want it to be, how long is the wire and how big the jar with the bubble mix. Twist one end of the wire to close the circle and keep the other end straight, as that would be the handle.

For a bit of extra color and creativity, get all sorts of beads, for example, different shapes, colors, letters, and let the kids string them on the handle. Twist off the end of the wire to secure them and it is now ready to be dipped in the soap mixture.

If you want to create smaller wands, use colorful pipe cleaners. These can be bought from most of the craft stores and they come in various colors. Now you need to shape a circle with them, similar to how you did with the wire. The fun thing is that you can also shape it as a heart, triangle, flower, etc. Once you are done with the shaping, twist the end that sticks to the handle tightly.

After you are done with the wands, it is time to have fun creating the soap mixture. For this you need warm water, dish soaps and glycerin. Take a container and mix them all carefully, calculating the ingredients based on how big your container is. For one cup of water you need 2 tablespoons of soap and 1 of glycerin, so adjust the quantities accordingly to the container you have.

Another fun thing is to create one giant bubble wand and you may do this in two ways. You can use 2 sticks and about 2 meters of string and decorating beads, if you want. If you do not want to use sticks, maybe choose straws and string. Pull the string through the straws and form a square, but not with two straws side by side. The hole in the middle will be used to make bubbles.

For the stick and string wands, tie half the string to one of the ends of the sticks and then the other half of the string to the other string, creating an egg-shaped hole. This hole will be used to make the bubbles. It is very easy and can be personalized as you want by painting the sticks or the strings or using straws of various colors. This is an activity that anyone can enjoy and it is a great way for the kids to spend time outdoors during spring or summer.
