A Discussion On Pressure Washing Decks And Wood Preservation

By Scott Stewart

Usually, this is done for the purpose of refinishing. Cleaning the wood deck is sometimes being done to prepare it. Power washing does the job really well instead of a chemical deck brightener since the former does the deep cleaning best. Though you might need to be careful because if not used properly, your deck will be ruined because of the pressure washer. Think carefully about Pressure Washing Decks and Wood Preservation.

Using power washers, or pressure washers is important in cleaning. But be careful on how you set it because if you go too far, then it is going to damage and etch the wood. Cleaning the deck should be done carefully no matter what the circumstances. Carefully doing it will stop people from getting splinters when they walk on the entire thing.

Those will soften the wood in time and make it flimsy and dangerous to step on. Plus, they do not look good on a surface that was presumably clean and smooth in the beginning. So to keep it safe, activating it into a very low speed will be enough. Especially if the wooding is made of soft sensitive wood.

In order to be absolutely sure, first set it on its lowest towards a surface right by the stairs. This is to check if the pressure is strong enough for even the most sensitive spots. And doing it there is inconspicuous so if you happen to hurt it and damage it, the replacement is easy to do, unlike the outer deck where everyone can see.

If there is a likely chance of you messing it up and damaging the timber, you can replace it easily since the wood there are not so expensive and the manual labor is not as arduous. Do not forget to check what type of wood the floor is so you do not get confused on what pressure to turn it up on. Numbering on it may be enough for your floor to stay the way it is.

A little technique worth remembering. Upon starting the contraption, make the settings as low as much as possible and test clean it everywhere until you slowly make your progress up towards a higher pressure. Do this on softer wood until you reach the hardest to clean with the machine going up to a higher set too.

Try this one on for size. When working on a larger field of the deck, when moving with the washer, put it on low then slowly set it to a mild high. It is like a preparation just in case the surface is not ready. Start by powering through the unseen places towards the place where people will most likely tread on.

The trigger or nozzle should the above the flooring by at least less than thirteen inches. Spraying in a sweeping motion to wash away the dirt and any form of unsightly things should also be done. That reduces inconsistency with the distance it put up for you. Your arm will hurt but it is worth it in the end.

You might want to start sanding, after all, that washing too. This remedies all the etching that happened during the cleaning part. Although if you actually did a good job on it the first time, then there will be no need to do so.
