What Defines Good Abstract Artists

By Brenda Miller

Most people have a painting or two hanging in their homes. The type of painting you own will depend on the style you prefer. You may own a nature print or even a portrait, but some other people will prefer work done by abstract artists. This painting will invoke different feelings or thoughts in different people, and this is one thing that makes them very interesting. If as a budding artist or student, you decide to take on this style, do not go in blind.

When you are starting out, consider taking some classes, or interning under an experienced person. This will allow you to develop your skills, and gain confidence in your skills. If you are concerned about financial security, start out as a part-time painter. Then when you are sure you can make enough money from, switch to doing it full time.

People tend to assume that people who deal with abstract art are scatter brained, but after you look at a number of their pieces you will notice some consistency. In order to be named as one of the good ones, you have to maintain this consistency. This way, your audience can understand what you were trying to say.

A good artist always has sketch pad on them. This ensures that even if they are out shopping and think of something, you can quickly put it down. This continuous practice helps you get better at your work, and can also be very helpful in finding your personal style. You also need to be creative enough to draw inspiration from anything around you. This can be when watching TV, walking in the park, or even preparing a meal.

Most artists can work with different mediums, but you should find at least one you like, and stick with it. This will mean if you choose to use oil paints, you have to know the best materials to use, and how to manipulate them to get what you want. However, you can always choose to use a mix of different styles like making a piece that has both charcoal, and oil paints.

When you think of this a business, you might view other artists as competition. However, you should socialize with them frequently. This way, you will know what is happening in the Los Angeles, California art scene, and it will also allow you to see what other people are doing. Every good artist has a mentor who they look up to, and a benefactor who supports their cause. Networking will be a good way to get these people.

Selling artwork can be tricky. It is normally hard to put a price on your talent, but you still need to make money somehow. If the prices are too high you might not make any sales, but if they are too low, you might forever be a starving artist. To stay on the safe side, you should talk to the more experienced people to help you rate and price your pieces.

A large number of people might not understand your work, and you might be surrounded by critics more often than you would like. You have to be very thick-skinned in order not to let this affect you. You also need to learn how to learn from this criticism.
