Features Widely Used In Modern Architect In Richmond VA

By Jennifer Martin

There has been a long history about buildings when humans started making them. Starting from stone carves to the present day houses; there has been a need of people to make the places they call home look great, warm and welcoming. This has gone a long way to influence the design of the buildings. Below are some characteristics of modern architect in Richmond VA that has been an evolvement of the classic designs infused with new and radical ideas.

Functionality in a modern designing is the determining factor. According to the need, the architect can be able to design a building or space that conforms to it. A good example when it comes to the need is the different structures in hospitals, factories, and living apartments among many others. There are designed for that particular purpose.

Roofing in past was necessarily to cover the house against the environmental elements that people were running from. However, the new architecture have gone in a different way where they have discarded the old triangular roofing for a more artistic and sculptural resemblance. A roof doe not only cover the house but made a bold statement about the building.

Traditionally, the windows were a way to let light into a building. The doors were a way to control of entry and exit and more so offer security. This however has changed in the modern architecture where they are very important parts when it comes to new designs. They can be designed for their aesthetic value rather than being burglar proof. Such include sliding glass doors and windows that are more provided a view than their traditional purposes intended

In the traditional form of architecture, there were some strict rules that were used in designing the floor space and the ceiling. This however in the modern architecture is different because the laying can be done different from the design and even the lighting of a house from the ceiling. An open floor is more preferred in modern designing in interior with fewer walls.

The older architecture employed the use of walls to support the structures they build. This was a limitation t going high because of the weight. But in recent construction, the architects have the ability to build to their desired heights because they employ the skeleton design. This means that the columns and beans are made of concrete and steel which has a great factor in the strength to weight ration.

For quite a long time, the gardens and outdoor decor had been neglected. But in the latest architecture, there has been an inclusion of the area topography and the garden decor. They have made it a part of a design that complements the building looks from the outside. More ways to merge the inside with the outside can also be achieved by having glass walls that allow one to see through.

Architecture in older days was governed by the factor of rationing. This was because after the world war, there was little and scarce resources and they needed to be maximized. This was a hindrance to any extravagant building seen in the modern architecture in matters material time and technology. The modern architecture is more of an open policy that allows free expression by the architects in their works.
